Dr. Tran has been appointed to a QME by the California Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC).
Curious as to what this means? Look below.
A Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME) is a doctor appointed by the California Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) to evaluate your work-related injury when there’s a dispute (e.g., about diagnosis, treatment, or disability). QMEs are used when you don’t have an attorney, or when parties can’t agree on a doctor.
An Agreed Medical Evaluator (AME) is a doctor both your attorney and the insurance company agree on. This happens only if you have legal representation. AMEs typically carry more legal weight, since both sides trusted the doctor’s opinion.
An Independent Medical Examination (IME) is used in non-workers’ comp cases like car accidents, disability claims, or personal injury lawsuits. The evaluator is usually selected by an attorney, employer, or insurance company to give a second opinion.
